Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

Last Week

We had 2 days this week with all students in attendance! That is quite an accomplishment during this germ-filled season we are in. We always celebrate when everyone is here. That is the best!!

We are learning about digraphs during our reading block. That is when 2 letters make 1 sound, like ch, th, sh and wh. Ask your child to tell you about them and maybe even give you some words that have them. You may be surprised!

Please be sure to work on the 100th day project for Monday. Each child will give an oral report of his/her project. I can't wait to see them!

Never hesitate to email me (ldelapa@sjschools.org) with any questions you may have regarding any of our “kindergarten stuff.”

Due to an allergy, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!

We will snack in the morning each day (our lunch time is 12:25). It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week Events.

Our Positivity Project trait is Other People Matter-Identifying and appreciating the good in others.

Monday is our 100th Day of School!!! Please be sure your child brings his/her 100th day project. I sent a hard copy with directions last week. Let me know though if you have any questions. We will celebrate this event all day with books, counting to 100, a fun party, etc. Be sure to ask your child about the day.

On Monday I will send home the Valentines Day information. There is a very specific way we would like the children to address the valentines, so please don't work on them until after Monday. Please follow directions on the sheet for easy distribution by the children. They love doing this themselves.

Wednesday afternoon we get to see the 1st grade performance. This is alway so fun!

On Thursday, February 6th our class will go ice skating from 11:15-12:15. Thank you for sending me all your children's shoe

sizes. This will allow us to get on the ice much more quickly. Please sign up to help if you are able using the link below.

Your child must have shoes to change into each day when boots are needed. In case of emergency, we can not allow children to be in socks only during our school day. You are welcome to leave a pair of shoes here during the winter for this reason. This is not necessary, but is encouraged.

Please be sure to --

  • Send a leak-proof, water bottle each day
  • Dress your child for the weather of the day-snow pants, boots, hat and mittens
  • Empty your child's folder each day
  • Return Library books by Tuesday of each week.
  • Wear gym shoes each Friday for gym class.

Upcoming Events

Friday, February 14--Valentine's Day Celebration-We will make Valentine bags in class for collection. I will send home

directions for how to address your child's valentines and class lists on Monday (I didn't want to overwhelm anyone with this in

addition to the 100th day project). You will be given a sheet with each of our classmates' names and numbers in boxes. Your child is to cut out all the names and tape or glue one on each valentine to be distributed during our party. Your child will only need to sign his/her name to the valentines they wish to give to classmates. It is a great matching activity as each child will have made a Valentine Bag at school with the same name and number box. If you have any questions once you get the sheet, please let me know.

Thursday and Friday, February 20, 21--1/2 day of school--Parent/Teacher conferences

Wednesday, February 26-Brown School Variety Show-We will travel to the high school to see the show in the morning. All

families are welcome to come at 5:30 that night.
