Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa Last Week My goodness the end of the year has come so quickly. The students have been anxious to help with packing up and cleaning the room. I can't speak to what happens at home, but each one of them is very helpful and great at cleaning and organizing. It has been fun working as a team getting our room ready for summer and next year's kindergarten class! Step Up Day was a big hit on Thursday. Our class spent 15 ish minutes with Mrs. DeFay-Wilson and 15 in Mrs. Miller's class (Mrs. Brown was absent on Thursday). They got a small taste of what 1st grade will be like. While that was happening, I was able to spend time with our Young 5's class. It was great all the way around. Ask your child what he/she learned about 1st grade.  Summer Reading Challenge information and supplies went home on Friday. Many of the things on the list are things you and your family will probably do anyway this su...

Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa Last Week We finished our NWEA testing last week. Everyone worked hard to do their best. Scores will come home with your child's progress report. Donuts with Someone was big fun. Thank you for your participation. The children love showing off their special people and of course the donuts 😋.  Our Library staff was able to see that all the children were able to choose 7 books from the Book Bonanza event. Those unable to come on Wednesday were able to choose books during the school day on Thursday. What a perfect end of the year gift for the children. Enjoy reading them with your child.  Our SJ graduating seniors who attended Brown School came on Friday for a final walk away. I love this tradition! Our elementary students love it too. They get a preview of what is to come. This day fosters some great discussion too. Your children will be wearing those robes and silly hats before you know it. ...

Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa Last Week Happy Mother's Day to all our wonderful Moms! I hope it has been a great day for you all with your families.  We had a perfect day for our trip to Sarett Nature Center on Friday. Please ask your child to tell you all he/she learned and experienced. A big thank you goes out to the grown ups who gave us their time as chaperones for this trip.  Our time with author Leslie Helakoski was great. She told us about the writing process and how she began writing books when she was in elementary school. She also helped us all to draw an owl and an alligator, step by step. Your child brought the drawings home on Friday afternoon. Be sure to ask about this. We have been reviewing high frequency words each day. Please work with these words at home with your child as well. Each word learned helps the reading process move forward. If you need me to send home another copy of the words, I wi...
