Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

Announcements

Your child may have mentioned that I left school early on Thursday and was gone Friday. As you know my husband was admitted into the U of C hospital last Tuesday. What we thought would be a couple of days has become more. Unfortunately, we are still here. Our doctors are working to stabilize him so he can go home. Once home he will need support until he is in better shape. Thankfully, Mrs. LaFond is able to teach for me all week. I'm so grateful that she is available. The children enjoyed her last week, so this will provide continuity for them.

We have completed the ELA portion NWEA fall testing. Our kiddos did a nice job of staying focused and following directions. This is strictly a baseline and also a first for these students. We will take the Math piece this week or next. The results will come home with progress reports at the end of the Trimester.

It has been fun getting the hang of Table and Math Centers in our room. The children are making good choices and enjoying the experiences. Table centers reinforce skills from any of our curriculum areas. Be sure to ask your child what he/she did during center time.

Your child checked out his/her first Library book home on Tuesday. Next week, they will come home. Please encourage

careful use of the book. Mrs. Hassenger taught us that we should treat our books as if they are babies. Books will always be

due back for exchange on Tuesdays. You are welcome to return the books early if you like. We have a crate in our room

for them.

Never hesitate to email me (ldelapa@sjschools.org) with any questions you may have regarding any of our “kindergarten stuff.”

We will snack in the morning each day (our lunch time is 12:25). It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week Events

Mileage Club Begins this Week!

Brown School’s Mileage Club will return the weeks of 9/16 and 9/23 during lunch recess. Mileage Club gives students an opportunity to get active by running/walking around the track and earning fun charms! We will need volunteers to help tally laps and string charms onto necklaces during lunch recess Mon/Wed/Fri the weeks of 9/16 and 9/23.

All volunteers must have a completed volunteer consent form on file. Please see the PTO portion of Mr. Hernandez' newsletter this week.

Wednesday, 9/11, is a Late Start. We will begin school exactly 1 hour later than usual at 9:25. The buses will pick up 1 hour later than usual as well.

Here is the link to our Guest Reader schedule. Please feel free to add your name to an open date that works for you. We enjoy having loved ones come to read. DeLapa Guest Readers Thank you to those who have chosen a date.

I would like some help with 2 readiness areas to aide in a quick exit to recess each day once the weather becomes cooler.

Please work with your child on pulling jacket sleeves right side out and zipping. The boys and girls feel so good about

themselves when they can do these things independently. A couple quick sessions, and they will have it! Thank you.

Please make note of this link for sharing our class photos  Mrs. DeLapa's Class Photos from field trips or class activities/parties. This is a secured spot for families to look at photos of our learning and fun. I appreciate your help with this.

Background checks MUST be submitted for any volunteer working throughout our school environment or with our

students on field trips.  This includes guest readers, party volunteers, etc. Please stop in the office to get a form to complete.  I am happy to send a form home with your child too. Just let me know. Please note: it could take up to two weeks to receive clearance.
