Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa
Last Week
Our 2 day week sure went quickly! It was fun sharing the excitement of our snow days with each other. I think we were all happy to be in school on Thursday and Friday 😊.
I sent home information on our 100th Day of School celebration Friday. Please be sure to look it over and reach out with any questions. This is such a fun day and a big accomplishment for all. The project is designed to show our kinders what 100 of something looks like. It is the hope that your child will do most of it with your guidance. The counting should be done by the students as well as the project itself. Thank you for making this a learning and confidence building experience for your child.
We took the Math NWEA Friday morning and only have a couple to make up. They are troopers while taking these assessments. The ones we take are for K-2, so the more difficult questions they answer correctly, the more advanced they get. I remind them that they will not know how to do each problem, so just do your best. It feels great to see the growth since the beginning of the year. 😀 As mentioned before, the results will be included with your child's T2 progress report in February.
Never hesitate to email me (ldelapa@sjschools.org) with any questions you may have regarding any of our “kindergarten stuff.”
Snack and Leaders
Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to an allergy, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!
We will snack in the morning each day (our lunch time is 12:25). It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day. Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week Events.
Our Positivity Project trait is Love. I care a lot about something or someone.
The February Leader/events and Homework calendars will come home this week.
Your child is welcome to return his/her January homework calendar any time now. Be sure to sign it and fill out the back if you are participating in our Book-It program through Pizza Hut.
Our next guest reader will be Mrs. Fillmore on Wednesday, January 29. Please come at 3:15 with 3-4 of your favorite books. We will see you then 😀.
Your child must have shoes to change into each day when boots are needed. In case of emergency, we can not allow children to be in socks only during our school day. You are welcome to leave a pair of shoes here during the winter for this reason. This is not necessary, but is encouraged.
Please be sure to --
- Send a leak-proof, water bottle each day
- Dress your child for the weather of the day-snow pants, boots, hat and mittens
- Empty your child's folder each day
- Return Library books by Tuesday of each week.
- Wear gym shoes each Friday for gym class.
Upcoming Events
Monday, February 3—100th Day Celebration-The students will each do a 100th day project to display at school.
Information for this came home on Friday. Let me know if you need another copy for reference. I will send volunteer information
to our 100th day team this weekend.
On Thursday, February 6th our class will go ice skating from 11:15-12:15. Please sign up to help if you are able using the link below.
Friday, February 14--Valentine's Day Celebration-We will make Valentine bags in class for collection. I will send home
directions for how to address your child's valentines and class lists on Friday. As far as valentines go, you will be given a sheet with each of our classmates' names and numbers in boxes. Your child is to cut out all the names and tape or glue one on each valentine to be distributed during our party. Your child will only need to sign his/her name to the valentines they wish to give to classmates. It is a great matching activity as each child will have made a Valentine Bag at school with the same name and number box. If you have any questions once you get the sheet, please let me know.
Thursday and Friday, February 20, 21--1/2 day of school--Parent/Teacher conferences
